Dr. Nelson Sabates received his medical training at the
University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine. After an
internship at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, he completed
his ophthalmology residency at the Dean McGee Eye Institute, University of
Oklahoma School of Medicine, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He received his
subspecialty training in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and
vitreous fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard
Medical School, and a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Schepens
Eye Research Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Sabates is an
Associate Clinical Professor, Director of Retina/Vitreous Service and
Director of Residency Training at the Eye Foundation of Kansas City,
Department of Ophthalmology, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC)
School of Medicine.
He has been in practice in this region for over eight years. He lectures both nationally and internationally, and has authored numerous presentations, articles and book chapters. He has been past president of the Alumni Association of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, and is on the Board of Directors of several institutions locally, regionally and nationally, including the Eye Foundation of Kansas City. He is Secretary of the Schepens International Society. Dr. Sabates is also very active in managed eye care. He is the Co-founder and President of Physician Vision Providers (PVP), Inc., a management services organization dedicated to managed eye care. Dr. Sabates is board certified and specializes in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous with special interests in laser vision correction and advanced cataract surgery. He is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sabates Eye Centers. |
