Felix Sabates, MD


Dr. Felix Sabates received his ophthalmology training at the University of New York, Downstate Medical Center and his subspecialty training in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. He also received a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Sabates has been in practice in this region for over 30 years.

Dr. Sabates is Clinical Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine. He is also the founder of the Department of Ophthalmology and the Eye Foundation of Kansas City. Many of the region's ophthalmologists have been trained under Dr. Sabates. He has been very active in lecturing both nationally and internationally, and has published numerous articles and book chapters.

Dr. Sabates received the Senior Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has received many other honors, awards and invited lectureships. He has been past President of the Missouri Ophthalmological Society and the Kansas City Ophthalmological Society. He is President of the Retina Society and Past-President of the Schepens International Society, two of the most prestigious organizations in the field of retinal and vitreous diseases.

Dr. Sabates is board certified, specializing in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous with a special interest in macular diseases and advanced cataract surgery. Dr. Sabates is the Founder and President of Sabates Eye Centers.
